Custom Unique Websites   by Gene Schwerman

While you will certainly find many people who will tell you differently, I will always believe that the BEST website is a Truly Unique Custom Website that does not look like any other competing site on the Search Engine search page. Of course not everyone wishes to stand out. Many people would rather "fit in," look conventional. They call it safe, I call it boring. So, if you wish to stand out from the crowd, if you want to be recognized for your differences rather than your similarities, then a Truly Unique Website Design is for you.

I am not trying to distinguish a template site from an original site here. In my opinion templates are at the very bottom of the food chain when it comes to web design, period, and have no place at all in a discussion about creativity in website design. What I am trying to point out is the actual use of creativity in web design is quite rare; that what passes for creativity today is often bland or boring; that if you say the same thing in the same position on the page and call up the same docile pictures time and again to convey your idea you have lost all potential for creativity; and further, a picture is only worth 1000 words if it calls up that many words as it does your brain's version of a Google Search.

Many people watch the super bowl in order to see the newest, most original commercials on television. They may even get up during the game to get a Bud Light so as not to miss the new Bud Light commercial. These are the premier advertisers in the country spending millions of dollars per minute in order that you see their product for 30 or 60 seconds rather than Tivoing through it while watching the taped version or getting up to take a whiz while Dorothy realizes she is no longer in Kansas or Bret realizes that he is. So if you are thinking about airing a commercial on the super bowl it is common sense to come with your A Game material. So if your business generates your income, does it not also follow that it is common sense to offer your A Game, with a bit of creativity, on your website?

I'm not trying to go off on a rant here, but I spend a lot of time searching websites and the number of times I find myself reacting to what might broadly be categorized as creativity during my searches is not even appreciable. Of course when you look at so many sites and get used to the fact that basic grammar, spelling and originality in phrasing is also quite lacking, it becomes much more understandable that creativity in expression, graphic superiority, reaching for the stars when making a point, attempting to stand out in an original, unique and positive way, are all, by their very nature, elusive elements in a generation of underachieving, barely literate, mass produced, intellectual clones who view creativity with suspicion and stare at an original graphic with the same "deer in the headlights" look with which Britney rewarded the judge as he notified her that she had left one of her kids in the car while rushing into her custody hearing.
